DINAGYANG FESTIVAL, ILOILO CITY, PHILIPPINES
Held every year in the last week of January. It marks a 700 year old tradition celebrating the barter agreement reached between the migrating Malay tribes and the resident natives of the islands. This was subsequently entwined with the worship of the child Jesus, ' Santa Niño' by the Spanish.
As dusk arrives, fires are lit and as the smoke swirls up into the night sky the drumming begins across the city.
